Legion Recruits The Orphanage

Published

on

Orphanage joins the Legion! The Orphanage FX studio has quite a number of big name films under its belt: Superman Returns and the latest Pirates sequel to name a few. They were also responsible for the stunning creature (pictured right) in The Host (review). This kind of talent is not going unrewarded as the Orphanage’s co-founder, Scott Stewart, is being given his first directorial voyage thanks to their recent match-up with Bold Films.

According to Variety Bold Films is not only taking in Stewart, but his whole FX house as well to create a supernatural thriller called Legion. Variety is also telling us that Legion is about “a group of strangers stranded in a desert truck stop who must band together to stop an army of demonic creatures out to fulfill an ancient prophecy that opens the gates of hell.

If you remove the prophecy bit from the plot then it starts to sound a lot like Feast (review). But, hopefully Legion will have more than a one day, limited release in the theatres.

We’ll bring you more as we find it.

The Executioners Knock on the Wrong Door! Get Axed!

Published

on

Ever since Funny Games I’ve been kind of soured on home invasion flicks. There have been some great ones, but seeing an entire family cower before to white gloved youths proved a bit too unbelievable for me. I wanted to see the family fight back. One thing’s for sure, judging by the cover of The Executioners someone has picked a feisty group of folks to pick on. Interest piqued.

Look for the flick to be arriving on DVD, Digital, and On Demand March 27 from Lionsgate.

Directed and written by Giorgio Serafini, the film stars Jemma Dallender, Natalie Burn, Rachel Rosenstein and Justin Fischer.

Synopsis:
When four friends go on a retreat to a secluded lakeside cabin, they soon realize they’re not alone. Masked intruders try to take them hostage, but as they fight back, the friends get a taste for something more than the will to survive. Will their fate be as victim or executioner?

Scream Factory Opens the Gate 2

Published

on

There are few films more beloved around DC HQ than Tibor Takacs’ 1987 monster-filled classic The Gate. It’s top to bottom fun featuring stop-motion beasties and a cute-as-a-button young Stephen Dorff, and that’s only a couple of reasons why the flick just rules.

Scream Factory (bless their hearts) just announced that its sequel, Gate II, will finally be getting a Blu-ray release; and we have your details and artwork right here.

Look for the flick starring original The Gate star Louis Tripp on February 27, 2018.

Synopsis:
This supercharged sequel to the horror classic The Gate comes alive with unearthly creatures, heart-stopping action, and incredible special effects. Gate II picks up again with Terry, the teenage sorcerer who summons beings from the other side whose powers can be used to grant any wish. Unfortunately, before the Gate closes again, a “minion” – a tiny disciple of Satan himself – manages to slip through to our dimension. When the creature is kidnapped – all hell breaks loose.

Special Features:

  • NEW 2K scan of the interpositive
  • NEW Return to the Nightmare – A Look Back at GATE II – featuring interviews with director Tibor Takacs, screenwriter Michael Nankin, and special visual effects creator Randall William Cook
