In LA? See The Phantom of the Opera & The Lost World with Live Musical Accompaniment

Live anywhere close to the UCLA campus? If so, you might want to catch one or both of the events UCLA Live has planned over the next few weeks for horror/sci-fi lovers: a chance to see two classic genre silent films on a big screen in a beautiful theater (Royce Hall) with live music.
Here are the details:
This Saturday night (October 30) it’s the 1925 Lon Chaney-starring version of The Phantom Of the Opera performed with a live score on the stunning Skinner pipe organ by Steven Ball, one of the best theater organists around. Click here for more details.
Then, on Friday, November 12, is the 1925 stop-motion creature feature The Lost World with a live soundtrack performed by Dengue Fever, an LA-based band with psychedelic grooves and a Cambodian-pop sound. The Lost World is based on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s novel, and Dengue Fever’s uniquely infectious grooves will charm and delight as the group sets a playful tone for the onscreen action featuring battles between a menagerie of dinosaurs and mythical beasts. They’ve only put on this show once before in San Francisco, last year, so it’s a pretty special event for UCLA Live. Click here for more details.
