Molly Ringwald to Recur in Riverdale; Series Key Art Unveiled

We’re still not sure how much The CW’s “Riverdale” will incorporate horror tropes, but until it premieres, we’ll keep providing you with all the latest updates on the show. Today we have some casting news and the series’ newly released key art.
First up, per THR, Molly Ringwald (Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club) has booked a recurring guest role and will portray Mary Andrews, Archie’s mother. Having left Riverdale two years ago to follow her dreams, Mary returns to town in her family’s hour of need. She reconnects with not only Archie and her husband, Fred (played by “Beverly Hills, 90210” alum Luke Perry), but also her former high school gal-pals Hermione and Alice, just in time for a homecoming dance. Ringwald is slated to appear in Episodes 1.10 and 1.11.
“Riverdale” debuts on Thursday, January 26, at 9PM ET/PT, following “Supernatural” in its new time slot of 8PM ET/PT. “Riverdale” is a surprising and subversive take based on the iconic characters from Archie Comics.

The series is written by Archie Comics Chief Creative Officer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and produced by Warner Brothers Studios and Berlanti Productions. Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schecter, Jon Goldwater, and Aguirre-Sacasa serve as executive producers. It offers a bold, subversive take on Archie, Betty, Veronica, and their friends, exploring small-town life and the darkness and weirdness bubbling beneath Riverdale’s wholesome facade.
The show will focus on the eternal love triangle of Archie Andrews, girl-next-door Betty Cooper, and rich socialite Veronica Lodge and will include the entire cast of characters from the comic books—including Archie’s rival, Reggie Mantle, and his slacker best friend, Jughead Jones.
