Dread hit the black carpet of the tenth annual Screamfest LA for the festival’s sixth day, and brought back some video interviews with the filmmakers of the Los Angeles premiering features Tucker & Dale vs Evil, and MTV’s upcoming My Super Psycho Sweet 16: Part 2.
Chatting with Tucker & Dale vs Evil’s Thomas Ausberger, the horror/comedy’s producer communicated to us his long-standing involvement with first-time directors, and also hinted at US distribution for the film (American filmgoers who embrace such films as Shaun of the Dead should rejoice, as Tucker & Dale vs Evil does for the killer-hillbilly sub-genre what Shaun did for zombie flicks, and if the audience’s laugh-out-loud from beginning to end response was any indication, then the Eli Craig-directed film will be an audience fave). The clever and uproarious film stars actors Alan Tudyk (Serenity) as ‘Tucker’ and Tyler Labine (from the series Reaper) as ‘Dale’ in the title roles, with actress Katrina Bowden adding to their infectious onscreen chemistry.
Director Jacob Gentry of My Super Psycho Sweet 16: Part 2 (which premieres on MTV this coming October 22) also took a moment on the carpet to chat up that film, as he did too regarding a possible third in the franchise, as well as the potential for a sequel to his co-directed cult hit The Signal. Joining him on the carpet were My Super Psycho Sweet 16: Part 2 cast-members Matt Angel, Jennifer Sun Bell, Devin Keaton, Laura McKnight, Stella Maeve, Kirsten Prout and Gina Rodriguez. Avatar’s Jason White and filmmaker Jeffrey Reddick were also on hand for the festivities.
