Hatchet II Pulled From US Theatres

Once it was yanked in Canada, we had a feeling that Adam Green’s Hatchet II would eventually get pulled here in the States. Well, we hope you got to see it this weekend.

Adam Green posted the following message from his Twitter account:

“To those asking: Yes, Hatchet II UNRATED has been pulled from US theaters. Press release coming tomorrow when we have the full details.”

Take heart, horror fans. The movie did well for the release that it had, and hats off to AMC Theatres for even taking the chance on it. We’ll have full details of what went down and what’s next tomorrow. Stay tuned.

This second installment in the now franchise for Dark Sky Films focuses on Marybeth as she escapes from the clutches of Victor Crowley, learns the truth about his curse, and heads back into the haunted New Orleans swamp to seek revenge for her family and kill Victor Crowley once and for all.

Hatchet II‘s cast includes Danielle Harris, Tony Todd, R.A. Mihailoff, AJ Bowen, Tom Holland, Kathryn Fiore, Parry Shen, Rileah Vanderbilt, Ed Ackerman, Rick McCallum, Colton Dunn, David Foy, Nick Principe, Alexis Peters, and Kane Hodder as Victor Crowley.

I really wish I had at least bought a ticket for it, even if I didn’t get to go. I was kinda banking on a second week run to go see it in NYC. 🙁

Kudos to AMC for having the balls to try.

I await the full story before I spit poison at those responsible.

I agree. I mentioned in my previous comment that I hope this is a box office issue. Not that I want to see the film fail, mind you,but at least that makes a fair amount of sense. Cinemas are a business at the end of the day and the space goes to the product which brings in the most money. It’d be sad to discover that no one really turned out for Hatchet II, but I’d rather that was the case then this being a bow to censorship because of pressure brought on by the Multiple Pussies And Asswipes. That takes things in an ominous direction.

I didn’t have the chance to see Hatchet II theatrically because the closest theatre showing it in proximity to my location was some 65 miles away. Due to economics related to time and money, I had to pass.
However, if the film had been exhibited in my area, I would have gone in a heartbeat.

We’re reaching critical mass on this, folks. It may not seem like it now..I’m sure to the majority of the populace it’s a matter of “it’s just a horror movie”…but if this decison to pull Hatchet II from theatres turns out to be the result of any sort of negative reaction to the graphic content of the film and not simply a matter of theatre space generating box office that doesn’t warrant a continuation of the exhibition, then a warning flare should be sent up to signal the attention of anyone opposed to censorship.

As a rule, I’m very much in the “middle of the road” in my views. It also may surprise anyone who’s read some of my posts on DC to discover that I’m a practicing Christian. This means that, while I believe in freedom of expression and have some liberal leanings, I’d also like to see some of the original family values of this country return since I do think our culture has lost its way in a lot of areas.

But even taking into account my specific conservative views, I’ll be the first to stand up and defend this film. It doesn’t matter whether or not any person or group respects the work itself- what matters is that Green is supposed to have the right to craft any artistic vision he desires and “we the people” are promised in that oh-so-important document which formed the basis of our nation that we have just as much right to partake in that vision as we choose.

Whatever happened behind the scenes here, it’s a sad testament to how much our freedom of choice has eroded over the years that it was such a struggle to get the film out there in the first place. It’s even more devastating that it’s being pulled . I really hope this is about a profit to cost ratio, because if it’s a censorship issue, that’s scarier than the film itself.

Glad I saw it when I did. This sucks a dick. I’m betting that if it made a shitload of money then AMC would have been more willing to stick by it, but that’s just a guess.

This is beyond sickening news. Have fun with your sanitized remakes and bullshit torture porn in 3D, pricks. *nods*

EXTREMELY pissed that I didn’t get to see it the way it was MEANT to be seen. I WAS planning on going tonight till I read this. I’m not even kidding at how upset I am. this is some Fahrenheit 451 BULLSHIT.
