Correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t Peter Fonda’s “Mephistopheles” in the first Ghost Rider supposed to be the devil, and wasn’t it all about his ungrateful demonic son trying to conquer the mortal world? Looks like the inexplicable Ghost Rider sequel will have a new devil for Nic Cage to contend with, and this one wants to rule the world via his mortal son.
The Hollywood Reporter’s “Heat Vision” Blog has the exclusive that Irish actor Ciaran Hinds (There Will Be Blood, “Rome”) is in negotiations to play the devil opposing the flaming skull on the motorcycle in Neveldine/Taylor’s Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance 3D. Italian actress Violante Placido (pictured below; most recently seen sans clothing in The American) is also aboard as the mother of the devil’s very human son.
The story sees Johnny Blaze, aka Ghost Rider (Cage), hiding out in remote Eastern Europe and struggling to repress his curse. Blaze is recruited by a sect to take on the devil (Hinds), who wants to take over his mortal son’s body on the boy’s birthday.
Shooting begins late November in Romania and Turkey.
Hopefully this attempt to bring Ghost Rider to the big screen won’t be as big a turkey as the last one was.
