Unless you’re a fan of The Twilight Saga, the name “Renesmee” probably doesn’t mean much to you, but for those in the know, she’s a pivotal character – the vampire/human hybrid daughter of Edward and Bella. And while we wait to see how they handle the birthing scene in the upcoming two-part film version of Breaking Dawn, at least we now have an inkling of who will be playing her: newcomer Mackenzie Foy.

Has The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Found Its Renesmee?According to EW.com’s Hollywood Insider, 9-year-old Mackenzie Foy is inches away from signing on to play Renesmee in the final installment of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn.

It’s not yet clear how the diminutive actress, who’s appeared in one episode each of television shows FlashForward and ‘Til Death, will portray the character who ages a full 17 years in only seven. Sources have suggested that director Bill Condon will employ similar digital effects to those used by David Fincher in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, where Foy’s face would be digitally transferred onto the face of a younger child. It’s also probable that the studio will hire a younger child in some capacity, too.

Part 1 of Breaking Dawn (which will be filmed simultaneously with Part 2 in both Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Vancouver, British Columbia, over the next year starting this fall) is slated to be released in theatres on November 18, 2011. Part 2 will follow a year later on November 16, 2012.

Academy Award winner Bill Condon will direct both films starring Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner along with Billy Burke as Charlie Swan as well as returning members of the Cullen Family including Peter Facinelli as Carlisle, Elizabeth Reaser as Esme, Jackson Rathbone as Jasper, Nikki Reed as Rosalie, Ashley Greene as Alice, and Kellan Lutz as Emmett. Maggie Grace and Rami Malek have also signed on as new characters in the Saga.
