Rock band Valora might not be a household name just yet, but if their new five-chapter graphic novel is the hit they’re hoping it’ll be, that will certainly change.
The Valora graphic novel is being made available in a few different formats – either as a flip-through digital comic or as a downloadable PDF from the official Valora website. Our heroine, Valora, is a kick-ass female character armed with a rebellious streak and a keen sense of justice.
You can check out Chapter 1, entitled “Til Death Don’t Us Part, as a motion graphic video below its synopsis:
The chapter starts in ancient Egypt, where a forbidden romance has developed between the son of the high priest and Valora, who is one of the queen’s female bodyguards, which ends in violence and death…but not before a ritual is performed that binds their souls together for all eternity. The ritual involves crystal shards from a powerful and mysterious orb. An orb that our two lovers will spend many lifetimes trying to keep out of the hands of people who would use it for evil in upcoming chapters of the story.
Valora is comprised of lead singer Syd Duran, who, with her electrifying voice and passionate guitar playing, is the band’s heart and soul. “Each member lends their own unique talents and personality to Valora. We’re bandmates, best friends, and family,” Syd says of lead guitarist Ryan Villa, keys and background vocalist Tae Duran, drummer Jared Baez, bassist Kasim Somers, and guitarist Cody Neibling.
Syd started out by “writing about romance, unrequited love, movies that scared me, and anything else noted in my trusty dream book.” She describes Valora’s music as “theatrical rock,” with an emphasis on “epic songs.” The band’s sound has been compared to Heart, Muse, and Queens of the Stone Age.
