So what if the movie has been done for like two years now? Fans looking forward to The Cabin in the Woods are going to have to wait a while longer for the film’s release. A long while.

Coming Soon reports that the flick directed and co-written by Drew Goddard and co-written by Joss Whedon (“Buffy the Vampire Slayer”) has been removed entirely from the January 2011 release schedule. No new date has been set, but we’re pretty sure we can attribute this to MGM’s financial woes and their want to push the Red Dawn (which has been postponed as well) remake out of the gate faster. As soon as we hear anything else, we’ll let you know.

The Cabin in the Woods received an R rating for “strong bloody horror violence and gore, language, drug use, and some sexuality/nudity“, and tells the familiar tale of kids being trapped in a cabin by — as star Amy Acker put it — “a lot of scary monsters”.
