True BloodSeason Three of HBO’s “True Blood” came to an end this past Sunday night, and while some viewers were a bit underwhelmed by the finale, there’s no denying showrunner Alan Ball really amped up the series’ sex ‘n gore quotient this year, which possibly aided in its 5% increase over the Season Two finale.

But before we get to boring numbers crunching, how about a look Inside the Episode for “Evil Is Going On”, during which writer and series creator Alan Ball discusses where the characters stand at the end of the season. Following that up is a special “Thank You” from Ball to all the “True Blood” fans.

As for how many fans that might be, per Variety “True Blood” ended its third season Sunday with 5.4 million tuning in, [and] a later repeat telecast drew another 1.1 million. Including all showings — linear, DVR and on demand — the vampire drama has been averaging 12.7 million per week.

Sunday’s numbers were impressive considering the stout competition the pay cabler went up against. NBC drew 25.3 million for the NFL game between the Cowboys and Redskins, while MTV offered the “Video Music Awards,” which scored 11.4 million.

Certainly no question why HBO has already renewed “True Blood” for at least another season!
