The fourth film in the Resident Evil franchise, Resident Evil: Afterlife (review here), blasted a hole in the box office this weekend, setting a franchise record with a take of $27.7 million, the largest gross since 2007’s Resident Evil: Extinction took in $23.7 million in its opening weekend.

No doubt the jacked up 3D ticket prices had a lot to do with that but the flick is now considered a hit … and you know what that means …

According to New York Magazine’s Vulture star Milla Jovovich dropped the following on fans:

This new Resident Evil is the first one to ever open at No. 1 worldwide. It’s the biggest movie in the franchise,” she tell Vulture while hosting the Mercedes-Benz Tea Party at Lincoln, the new restaurant at Lincoln Center. “So we’re definitely going to make another one. We’ve been talking to a lot of fans on Twitter and stuff, so it’s probably going to be one of the first movies where we really talk to fans to see what they want, and what characters they want to see. It’s going to be a more interactive process.”

Here’s an idea … make a movie actually based on the games. Or is it too late for that? What say you? Tell us in the comments section below.
