Resident Evil: Afterlife Scores Big Box Office! More Sequels Confirmed!

The fourth film in the Resident Evil franchise, Resident Evil: Afterlife (review here), blasted a hole in the box office this weekend, setting a franchise record with a take of $27.7 million, the largest gross since 2007’s Resident Evil: Extinction took in $23.7 million in its opening weekend.

No doubt the jacked up 3D ticket prices had a lot to do with that but the flick is now considered a hit … and you know what that means …

According to New York Magazine’s Vulture star Milla Jovovich dropped the following on fans:

This new Resident Evil is the first one to ever open at No. 1 worldwide. It’s the biggest movie in the franchise,” she tell Vulture while hosting the Mercedes-Benz Tea Party at Lincoln, the new restaurant at Lincoln Center. “So we’re definitely going to make another one. We’ve been talking to a lot of fans on Twitter and stuff, so it’s probably going to be one of the first movies where we really talk to fans to see what they want, and what characters they want to see. It’s going to be a more interactive process.”

Here’s an idea … make a movie actually based on the games. Or is it too late for that? What say you? Tell us in the comments section below.

Do you think they’ll actually do the sequel or just go with a reboot I’ve heard their is suppoused to be a reboot coming up thats suppoused to be more game like then bs like

I actually liked the first film. The second had its merits (namely Sienna Guillory in that smoking outfit) and I absolutely loath the third film. That was Tyrant? Really??

I keep hoping someone’ll step up and see how cinematic the games are and make a decent adaptation. They don’t need to be shot-for-shot, but something close.

I’m not a fan of 3D. I still think it’s a useless gimmick and don’t see the need to charge extra for it. I’ll wait till DVD for this one like I did with the previous two…

I personally like that the films are going off on their own direction. Personally I think it would have been boring/lazy if the original film was based nearly one-to-one off the original game. Then basing each successive film off each game sequel would have once again; been lazy/boring. Fans would have been pissed off because they just paid $10 to see a shot by shot adaptation of a video-game they could be playing at home. Then again, they’d be pissed if the film deviates from the storyline of the game and does something different.

Personally, curious to see where the franchise goes after this one.

Is it too late to declare a blood feud with Paul Anderson’s entire clan?

Oh yay. Now we’ll never get something that resembles the actual game. THANKS FOR ENCOURAGING THEM PEOPLE!! I even told you Milla was not naked in this one. Sheesh.
