It is always with great pride that we announce when one of our own has a project taking off, and this moment is no different. Dread Central scribe Carnell has a new book ready to terrify you, and we’ve got all of the details for you right here! Dig it!
From the Press Release
Carnell, a three-time International Horror Guild Award Nominee (for his work with Carpe Noctem magazine), announces the completion of his new horror masterwork, No Flesh Shall Be Spared. This “Gladiator-meets-Dawn of the Dead” horror/action novel is already being heralded as the next step in the evolution of the Living Dead subgenre.
“No one has done more for the legitimization of the beauty of the horror genre than Carnell.”
– Clive Barker
The novel is set in a near future where society has dealt with a global outbreak of the Living Dead and is finally starting to move on. As the world begins to pull itself back together, a new highly lucrative international sport – zombie pit fighting – emerges which, in a very short period of time, manages to surpass all previous sports revenue and attendance records. The World Gladiatorial Federation and The Undead Fight League have grown bigger and more influential than the NFL, NBA, and Major League Baseball combined. From the League’s ratings and their fighters’ popularity, it is apparent that the Living have not quite finished with the Dead. A fighter, Cleese, is recruited and indoctrinated into this violent world where every match could be the fighter’s last. No Flesh Shall Be Spared is the tale of Cleese’s rise to supremacy in the sport and the unanticipated fallout of that involvement. The Dead will fall. Friends will die. The question that arises is that of Cleese’s fate in the ensuing mayhem.
“Carnell writes with the raw sense memory of a battered child and the brute muscularity of a bouncer in a bar fight. His debut novel No Flesh Shall Be Spared is scarred, scary, deeply disturbed, and worth every bloody minute of it. You have to read this book. But you might need therapy later.”
– Craig Spector, author of Underground, To Bury The Dead, Light At The End
With a style that is oftentimes controversial, Carnell’s writing immediately engages the reader and, with his realistic imagery, pulls him into the world of the Undead. Carnell’s unique background as a funeral arranger and embalmer gives him credibility few other writers have achieved.
“Mr. Carnell is a master storyteller. He understands that at the heart of a great tale of terror is a story so spellbinding that readers are gripped with curiosity and fear. My pulse raced, sweat formed above my brow, my blood boiled, and I’m dead. I just wish I were alive to direct this paragon of storytelling.”
– William Castle
As publisher and head writer of Carpe Noctem and contributing writer for Fangoria and Dread Central, Carnell has had the opportunity to interview numerous luminaries in the entertainment industry and is well known for his in-depth, intelligent interviews. His praises are sung by the likes of Clive Barker, Neil Gaiman, Frank Miller, Viggo Mortensen, Robert Rodriguez, and Rob Zombie.
