Sample a Bit of the Score from Fetch

One thing that can really make or break a horror film is the choice of music for its soundtrack, and no one is more aware of that than Fetch producer Theodore Loscalzo, who dropped us a line with a little behind-the-scenes info on the scoring process for the film along with a few clips of the types of music we can expect to hear in the finished product.

One of the things that makes Fetch special is the music that we have been so fortunate to include in the film, says Loscalzo. “One of the greatest challenges for any production is to find and have a score and music that supports and conveys the emotions that the director is working to create! Patrick Savage and Holeg Spies (official site here) are a unique composer-duo for film from Europe.

Patrick is a violin virtuoso and previous member of the prestigious Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, who contributed to the score of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Harry Potter, and more. Holeg is an indie music guru and wrote tons of experimental music for prestigious contemporary art venues such the Centre Pompidou in Paris. He was sponsored in the 90’s in Japan by an ex-member of Juno Reactor (Matrix 2 and 3). The widely traveled composer/producer met director Takashi Miike in 2002 in Tokyo and created an audio-visual remix of his brilliant award-winning film Ichi the Killer. From there he decided to concentrate on film music, and his first hit was for the trailer of The Hitcher remake produced by Michael Bay.

Savage and Spies describe creating the score for Fetch as follows: “More than horror, Fetch is a drama, and we actually had to cover two different worlds. One, quite surreal, is ‘the barn’, a world for itself where humanity has disappeared, where love struggles with an everyday reality, where misery looks for hope and exit. Musically, there’s a deep contrast between these two worlds, and as film composers it is a fantastic opportunity to explore every kind of emotions and actions in one entire film. The result is a crossover of genres merging all together to guide the audience.

Loscalzo tells us he has also found an exceptional partner in Adam Wolf, Senior Creative Director of pigFACTORY Music. “Adam was fantastic to work with and found us a sound that fits the movie so well with UK pop noir starlet Gemma Ray. I feel like we were very lucky to be able to license her music; she has a very strong following in the UK, and her sound and voice were made for horror films! Doubters will be converted and convinced when Gemma and her band take the songs to an even heightened level of hypnotism and drama. She plays slide guitar not with a slide, but with a very intimidating ‘Psycho’-style knife. Check it out!

Adam and pigFACTORY were kind enough to provide a download for Dread Central readers of Gemma Ray’s “(You Got Me In A) Death Roll”. Click here or on the below photo of Gemma’s knife slide to listen.
