Home Depot Pulls Halloween Decoration from Stores Due to Offensive Complaints

Welp. We’re heading into the end of the year, and damn near everything has become offensive, hasn’t it? One simply cannot log on to the social media interwebs these days without hearing somebody bitching and moaning about one thing or another.

This is just how it works now, my friends. Welcome to 2016! And with Halloween rearing its beautiful head around the corner, we certainly couldn’t start off the season of Samhain without someone getting their panties in a bunch, right?!

In a news report from CNBC, a Home Depot located in Canada received complaints after displaying a “Peeping Tom” decoration in its store. The decor that’s referred to as the “Scary Peeper Creeper” is described by Home Depot’s online shopping site as having a “realistic face [that] looks just like a real man is peering through the window at you.”

A Toronto woman by the name of  Breanne Hunt-Wells contacted CBC News to complain about said Halloween prop, stating the Creeper is “inappropriate and makes light of a real-life, sinister issue that women face in our society.  It makes light of a very serious crime. Voyeurism is a crime in Canada.”

After CBS contacted Home Depot to comment on the situation, spokeswoman Emily DiCarlo responded, “We agree that this is not in line with our core values and, when we heard, took immediate action and are currently in the process of removing this product from our assortment. We’ve reached out to advise the customer of our actions and apologize. We’re sorry for any offence that was caused.”

I personally don’t see the issue here. However, I’m not one to over-analyze every little thing to death. I just see it as an ugly Halloween decoration with a bit of humor behind it. But what the hell do I know, right? I’m just a silly horror blogger who can’t even afford the $30 Halloween gag.
