Here’s How Don’t Breathe Was Originally Going to End

Released this past weekend, Evil Dead remake director Fede Alvarez’s Don’t Breathe (review) is making a killing at the box office and impressing the hell out of audiences, which is awesome to see considering it’s an original R-rated horror flick. Obviously, if you haven’t yet seen the movie, you’ll want to avoid this post.

In other words, spoilers will be found down below.

You’ve been warned.

At the end of Don’t Breathe, Jane Levy’s character Rocky is the sole survivor of the home invasion-gone-wrong, and as she departs for California with her young sister, we’re shown that Stephen Lang’s villainous character is still very much alive. But as Bloody Disgusting uncovered, that wasn’t the original ending.

In the original script, Rocky and her sister are followed into the train station by Lang’s character, hinting that he’s not yet finished with Rocky. As the two girls disappear into the crowd, the unnamed blind man’s cane enters the frame, making for a sinister sequel tease that was shot but not used in the theatrical cut.

The Don’t Breathe cast includes Jane Levy, Dylan Minnette, Daniel Zovatto, and Stephen Lang.

Fede Alvarez directed and wrote the screenplay with Rodo Sayagues. Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert produce for Ghost House Pictures. J.R. Young, Nathan Kahane, Joe Drake and Erin Westerman executive produce.

Synopsis:
A trio of friends break into the house of a wealthy blind man, thinking they’ll get away with the perfect heist. They’re wrong.
