Find Out Which Star Was Originally Supposed to Cameo in Zombieland!

Horror movie cameos don’t get any better than Bill Murray playing himself in Zombieland, but did you know that Murray wasn’t the first Hollywood star who was up for the memorable role? Speaking with Kevin Smith and Greg Grunberg on AMC’s “Geeking Out,” writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick just spilled the beans!

We originally wrote that part for Patrick Swayze,” said Reese. “And Patrick got sick. We offered it to probably twelve other actors, and every time we did, we rewrote the script to make jokes specific to that actor.”

Reese then listed off the names of other actors the cameo was offered to.

Sylvester Stallone, Kevin Bacon, Mark Hamill,” he added. “Jean-Claude Van Damme passed and subsequently, we heard through the grapevine, said it was the biggest mistake of his career.”

Eventually, Woody Harrelson suggested either Bill Murray or Dustin Hoffman, and the rest, of course, is history.
