San Diego Comic-Con 2010: New Image and del Toro Speaks – Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark

Words alone cannot convey how excited we are for Guillermo del Toro’s take on the Seventies TV scare-a-thon Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark. The original is a classic in every way, shape, and form and we can only imagine what kind of craziness del Toro is set to bring. Though we did get some insight at this year’s Comic-Con!

During his panel del Toro promised a “…good old fashioned scare. It’s hard hitting, it’s scary, it’s classical, but the ending hits you…”

Even better, the film will receive a studio supported R-rating and will definitely NOT be in 3D. Maybe all this backlash is finally doing some good?

For those unfamiliar Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark centers on a young girl, portrayed by Bailee Madison, who’s sent to live with her father (Guy Pearce) and his girlfriend (Katie Holmes) in the old mansion they are renovating, where she unwittingly unleashes malevolent creatures bent on destroying all of them.

Look for this adaptation of a 1973 ABC telepic arriving in theaters on January 21st.
