San Diego Comic-Con 2010: True Blood Writer Charlaine Harris Discusses What's Coming Up NextThe San Diego Comic-Con Spotlight panel with author Charlaine Harris, whose Sookie Stackhouse novels are the inspiration for “True Blood”, just ended, and Debi reported in with the highlights.

First off Ms. Harris was surprised to receive the Comic-Con Inkpot Award for excellence in fantasy and sci-fi writing. Then we went into the Q&A:

She is under contract for three more Sookie Stackhouse books, the next coming in May as usual. On the first Tuesday in August the short story “Death’s Excellent Vacation”, featuring Sookie, Pam, and a stripper pole, is being released.

In February we’ll have the Sookie Companion containing all things Sookie:

  • An FAQ by Charlaine
  • An interview with Alan Ball
  • Recipes
  • Secret emails between Bill and Eric
  • An original novella with Sookie, Sam, and Quinn

The question was raised if she ever considers adding any of the new characters from the TV show into the books. One word: “No!” They are “separate entertainment vehicles … two experiences for the price of one.”

For Bubba fans, he will be in the next book. And for those wondering why Bill has levitated only once, she simply hasn’t needed for him to use that particular gift again.

Another “no” came when Charlaine was asked if Sookie’s telepathy is related to her fairy blood.

Lastly, in case you’ve been wondering if Sookie will ever “turn”, Charlaine was quite emphatic that she will NEVER become a vampire.
