Mega Python vs. Gatoroid Adds a Monkee

Mega Python vs. Gatoroid Adds a MonkeeAs if having two Eighties pop princesses wasn’t kitschy enough, now Mega Python vs. Gatoroid has added a Sixties pop star.

According to The Hollywood Reporter Micky Dolenz, the drummer for the fictional 1960’s TV band “The Monkees”, is the latest to sign on for Pet Semetary director Mary Lambert’s Syfy epic being produced by The Asylum.

For those that didn’t catch our previous story when the Asylum/Syfy production of Mega Python vs. Gatoroid was originally announced (on my birthday no less!), Debbie Gibson will play a fanatical animal-rights activist who frees illegally imported exotic snakes from pet stores, sending them into the Everglades, where they grow to mega sizes. Tiffany will play an overzealous park ranger who uses dangerous methods to save endangered alligators. The dueling divas will also have their own smackdown in the middle of the swamp.

How exactly does Micky Dolenz (seen in the accompanying photo, presumably taken at a Billy Jack convention) factor into all of this? We don’t know yet. Maybe he’ll serve as the referee. Maybe he’ll perform a song titled “Hey, Hey, It’s the Gatoroid” or another take on an old Monkees hit with the lyrics changed to “And then Mega Python ate her face/Now I’m a believer!”

Shooting is scheduled to begin shortly. That still gives the producers time to add a long past their prime Seventies musical act to the cast to join their Sixties and Eighties counterparts. If I were Captain and/or Tennille, I would be sitting by my phone in anticipation right now.
