SD Comic-Con 2010: Piranha 3D Footage Too Much for Comic-Con

So a few days ago Piranha disappeared quietly off of the San Diego mega event’s schedule. Everyone has been pretty quiet as to why, but now it seems as if the reason is that there may have been too much boobs and blood in the water.

The good folks over at HitFix recently got to the bottom of things in their exclusive interview with Comic-Con’s Director of Marketing and Public Relations, David Glanzer.

As it turns out, Comic-Con “rejected the footage the Weinstein Company wanted to show in front of Hall H’s 10,000 fans, but that was because it wasn’t suitable for the Con’s family audiences.”

My understanding is that the footage wasn’t all ages appropriate,” Glanzer told HitFix. “We don’t check ID to get into those meeting rooms, so we don’t want something inappropriate.

Interesting news considering the flagrant gore-fest of kill footage from The Final Destination went off in Hall H without the slightest hitch last year. This begs the question … what in the world did the Weinsteins submit, and if not at Comic-Con, when the hell can we see this footage?

Ah, Piranha 3D. I think I love you already! Look for the flick in theatres on August 20th.

Synopsis
Jaws… lots and lots of jaws. From acclaimed director Alexandre Aja (The Hills Have Eyes) comes the new action thriller PIRANHA 3D, in the latest eye-popping 3D technology. A new type of terror is about to be cut loose on beautiful Lake Victoria. After a sudden underwater tremor sets free scores of the prehistoric man-eating fish, an unlikely group of strangers must band together to stop themselves from becoming fish food for the area’s new razor-toothed residents. But our heroine (Elisabeth Shue) is seriously outnumbered, and with only one chance to save the lake and her family from totally being devoured, she must risk everything to destroy the aquatic carnivores herself.

New Piranha 3D One-Sheet Showcases Jaws. Lots and Lots on Jaws.
