Latest Horror Documentary Shows Off The Splat Pack

Horror movies in the Nineties had gone horribly awry with the exception of a few classics that slid out under the radar. Slasher films were now bloodless, the teenagers were no longer meat for the beast, and for whatever reason horror seemingly had lost one or two of its fans. But then they came. Horror’s latest superstar directors who were looking to set things straight!

A new documentary from WyrdStuff is on its way titled The Splat Pack that examines the first decade of 21st century horror films and the filmmakers who were dubbed “The Splat Pack” by film critic Alan Jones.

Featuring interviews with Alexandre Aja (High Tension), Darren Lynn Bousman (Saw II-IV), Adam Green (Hatchet), Alan Jones, Harry Knowles, Greg McLean (Wolf Creek), Neil Marshall (The Descent), Greg Nicotero, Eli Roth (Hostel), and the beauty to my journalistic beast — Staci Layne Wilson, The Splat Pack will be available for download soon. Hit up the above linkage for more details, and watch the trailer below.

Neil Marshall I’ll give you. Everyone else? Hah. That’s a laugh. Excluding the first hah. Man, how we’ve lowered our standards for horror heavyweights. It’s so heartbreaking.
“We are bad guys. That means we’ve got more to do other than bullying companies. It’s fun to lead a bad man’s life.”

Uncle Creepy Your absolutely Right there were some Fun but under the radar Horror films that came out after Scream in the 90’s like Idol Hands,Event Horizon,Deep Blue Sea,Dusk Till Dawn, Sleepy Hollow,House on Haunted Hill,Alien Resurrection, Night Flier,The Ugly,Uncle Sam,Bride of Chucky,Audition,Ravenous, and Virus
and don’t get me started on KickAss Under the radar 90’s Horror flicks that came out BEFORE Scream because there will be TOO MUCH to name

What’s the point? Between them they only made 2 great horror films, both of which came from the same director!

I’m also fed up with the slaggin off of Scream. The slasher films were dying out and there hadn’t been a remotly good one since Candyman. And the only money making horror films were either Silence of the Lambs knock-offs or ones featuring big name stars.

Love it or hate it, Scream did more for the horror genre than any of the Splat Pack’s work did.

What did ‘Scream’ do for the horror genre?

      • GJW

Absolutely nothing. That is,if you consider adding a multitude of new horror fans, getting other genre movies recognized, showing horror can still make a buck in theatres and bringing renewed energy and love to a dying genre nothing.
