Saw VII news has been all over horror sites lately, and while it was looking like Lionsgate was content to keep the tradition of Roman numerals alive, it now seems like they’ve reconsidered since we’ve gotten word on an unfortunate new title.
According to some Comic-Con press materials, Lionsgate has retitled the flick Saw 3D The Traps Come Alive, and our good friends over at Shock Till You Drop have confirmed this particularly stupid bit of news so, no, I’m not smoking crack.
Hard to believe that someone on Lionsgate’s payroll will be getting a check at least in part for coming up with that has to be the worst sequel title in the genre’s history. Was the Gate scared off of numerals after the lackluster take of Saw VI? Is this their way of promising a fresher cinematic experience? Whatever the case may be, it’s a bad, bad idea.
UPDATE: It’s now looking like the official title is the abbreviated Saw 3D with “The Traps Come Alive” being more of a tagline or subtitle. Whew! Much better!
Look for it in theatres nationwide on October 22nd, 2010.
