Since the series’ inception, “American Horror Story” has always had the most kick-ass one-sheets, and the upcoming sixth season is no different. Check out the latest, which – truth be told – kind of nauseates us.

While the main plot of this season is yet to be revealed, the first shots from the “AHS” set in Santa Clarita, CA, provide a HUGE hint about the theme, as evidenced by one word etched into a tree: CROATOAN.

If you were paying attention in American History class, this is no doubt a reference to the Roanoke Colony, also known as the “Lost Colony.” Here’s the skinny per Wikipedia: The Roanoke Colony was established on Roanoke Island in what is today’s Dare County, North Carolina, United States. It was a late 16th-century attempt by Queen Elizabeth I to establish a permanent English settlement. The colony was founded by Sir Walter Raleigh. The colonists disappeared during the Anglo-Spanish War, three years after the last shipment of supplies from England. Their disappearance gave rise to the nickname “The Lost Colony.” There has been no conclusive evidence as to what happened to the colonists.

“American Horror Story” returns for its sixth installment on FX on Wednesday, September 14, at 10 PM ET/PT. The returning stars for Season 6 are expected to include Kathy Bates, Denis O’Hare, Angela Bassett, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Finn Wittrock, Cheyenne Jackson, Wes Bentley, Lady Gaga, Leslie Jordan, and Matt Bomer. Cuba Gooding, Jr., is rumored to be on-set as well.
