Scream 4 Woes? New Writer? Angry Stars?

Ah yes, the movie biz! So full of drama both on and off of the screen. The following at press time is nothing more than rumors; however, given the recent switch in actors, there might be a glimmer of truth to be had …

Zap2It reports that all is not well on the set of Scream 4, which is now lensing in Michigan …

“Lauren Graham’s role was so reduced that she dropped out of the project, and now it appears that Hayden Panetierre’s part has changed as well… and who’s at fault may surprise you.

Zap2it has learned that the slasher flick’s script is now in the hands of Ehren Kruger, not the creator of the franchise, Kevin Williamson.

In fact, word is that Williamson’s involvement with the project has come to an end entirely — meaning “Scream 5” is a no-go at this time.

Kruger’s writing resume includes “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” and “The Ring,” and more significantly, “Scream 3.” While the first two “Scream” movies, penned by Williamson, were adored by fans and critics alike, “Scream 3” was… well, not.

Hayden Panettiere’s role, which one source says “used to be really sharp” has now been “dumbed down significantly.” The actress is “beyond frustrated with the changes.” Another source says that Lake Bell, who had to drop out of “Scream 4” due to scheduling changes, “dodged a bullet.”

To make up for the actors that have dropped out of the production, Alison Brie, Marley Shelton, Erik Knudson, and Adam Brody have all signed on recently.”

Hit up the above link for more. Again … rumors for now but we’ll see how this all pans out soon I’m sure.

Look for Scream 4 in theatres on April 15th, 2011.

“Also, wasn’t Kevin Williamson the driving force behind this film and potential trilogy?”

He was, but he dropped out of 3 because he had more important shitty, heavyhanded, self-important TV shows to produce and film scripts to not get produced. Now that nobody remembers who he is he goes back to the well with the series he clearly didn’t care enough about ten years ago when he was going to “finish” the “trilogy” that was “always planned to be a trilogy”. Couple that with the fact that Wes Craven’s latest has been sitting on the shelf for as long as it has (it was “almost ready for release” when he spot at the Festival of Fear in 2008, yet where is it?) and you’ve got a recipe for a desperate, poorly thought out piece of shit.

I love that “x person’s role has been reduced” translates into “the new guy’s ruining what was probably an amazing script”.

This was always going to be a POS, so why are people surprised that it’s having difficulties?

Good maybe this will end the Scream Franchise for good

This project is doomed. Kruger has done a few decent scripts (the original ‘Ring’ and ‘Skeleton Key’), but the Weinsteins are sure to insist on a dumber than dirt script. They believe that horror fans are unsophisticated and immature and only make horror flicks to support their pretentious Oscar bid films.

Well shit, there goes any hopes for Scream 4…

Kruger ruins everything he touches. And honestly, it wouldn’t surprise me if the Weinsteins are working their douchebaggery to create another trainwreck. With all their financial problems, they’re probably even more paranoid than usual. This could be Cursed all over again.

Man, I REALLY hope this is the stuff of rumors.

If not, I am going to seriously depressed.

I haven’t liked everything Williamson has done, but he’s integral to Scream, dammit. Just look at Scream 3 for proof.

And Kruger, again!? REALLY!? Please no.

  • LSD Zombie

Fucking Kruger! How can they be so stupid as to bring him back?! He’s one of the reasons Scream 3 sucked as hard as it did! If Williamson is truly out, count me out as well. I can only imagine how pissed Williamson must be if this turns out to be true.

  • LeBay

Why can’t everyone just get along? Nevertheless, I sincerely hope none of this is true. Kruger’s script for Arlington Road was fantastic, but everything since then has been of diminishing quality.

Also, wasn’t Kevin Williamson the driving force behind this film and potential trilogy? It seems awfully strange to have him absent, whether he quit or was booted off. I hope Craven can pull it together, whatever the troubles.
