Guillermo del Toro’s Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark Gets a Release Date

One of the great things about working for Dread Central is that it forces me to be up-to-speed on everything happening within our beloved genre. With that said, however, some things have a way of catching me off guard. Like that the 1973 classic Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark has been remade and that none other than Guillermo del Toro is producing it. Read on to know when you can expect it to hit a theater near you!

According to Variety Disney will release the film, which is directed by Troy Nixey, domestically on January 21, 2011, through its Miramax arm.

The story centers on a young girl, portrayed by Bailee Madison, who’s sent to live with her father (Guy Pearce) and his girlfriend (Katie Holmes) in the old mansion they are renovating, where she unwittingly unleashes malevolent creatures bent on destroying all of them.

We’re still quite a ways away from this one, which means that you’ve got plenty of time to seek out the original before the remake breaks, right? If you haven’t seen it, dig the trailer below before giving it a whirl. You don’t be disappointed.

yeah but unfortunately its not gonna happen hes jumping on the remake bandwagon which is such a waste and after that he will probably pull a Peter JAckson…wait hes already done that since hes now in a position he could make At the mountains of madness but has decided to use every excuse why he cant so he can move out of the horror genre as well

Katie Holmes? Does this mean she will be releasing the Tom Cruise/Scientology Freak monster?

Shouldn’t they hire Trey Parker to fight the beast?

  • Tshoffie

I for one will not be supporting Del Toro untill he goes back and does original movies again.
