Official Survival of the Dead Blu-ray / DVD Specs

On August 24th the next chapter in George A. Romero’s epic undead franchise will be unleashed upon the home video audience, and we’ve got the scoop on exactly what to expect once this bad boy shambles its way home.

Like its predecessors, Romero’s Survival of the Dead (reviews here and here) takes place in a desperate, nightmarish world where the dead walk the earth, relentlessly attacking the living. It is the story of Plum Island – a beautiful refuge whose isolation allows two powerful families to maintain a semblance of order in the wake of the zombie holocaust. But as the inhabitants slowly die off, the two clans become sharply divided: The O’Flynns believe that the undead must be destroyed without exception, while the Muldoons insist that afflicted loved ones be kept “alive” until a cure is found. The result is an escalating showdown with echoes of a classic Western stand-off that erupts in brutality and violence.

Managed to snag a rental copy of the Blu-ray from my local video store. Really dug the movie (quite a bit better than Diary, actually) and look forward to grabbing it as soon as I can.

Looks like your commentary isn’t on the Blu-ray, UC, sorry. Haven’t had the chance to check out the rest of the extras but if it’s any consolation your scene in the movie kicked ass and brought a huge grin to this horror fan’s face.

Edited to add: Just skimmed through the documentary and about twenty eight minutes in we get a good look at you shooting your spotlight scene in the form of a brief interview clip, the full two minutes it took to tear that guy apart and some clowning around as only you can do. Good stuff.

Take Heart. My commentary will be released the same day as the blu-ray. Press release coming soon.

I’ve seen the doc. Was a lot of fun! Glad you enjoyed it!

What is it about you and commentary tracks that make movie distributors go, “No. Just no.” How many times has this happened to you now?

          • Uncle Creepy

This would be the third. I’m too hot for retail. But again, the commentary for this one will be available for blu-ray buyers only.

    • Uncle Creepy

Looks like I’ve been fucked again. Just got the two disc DVD in the mail and my commentary is not on it. We’ll see if the blu-ray has it. Should be getting that soon. Thus far? I’m fucking heartbroken.

      • Pestilence

Aw, WHAT?!?!? So no commentary on there at all?
