I saw a lot of cool things at this year’s Scares that Care convention and met an even greater amount of fantastic people. One of them was writer/director Mike Lombardo, currently in the process of finishing up his Christmas-set apocalyptic thriller I’m Dreaming of a White Doomsday. The imagery Lombardo conjures, coupled with the killer premise, has made this one of our most anticipated films this year.
Writer/director Lombardo, along with executive producer Brian Keene, delivers a bleak horror story about a family trying to survive a post-apocalyptic world during the most wonderful time of the year.
White Doomsday tells the disturbing tale of Kelly and her son, Riley, weathering the end times in a bomb shelter amidst the ruin that once was the world. With supplies and hope steadily declining, Kelly makes a horrifying decision that will cause her to discover just how far she would go for her child, and what lurks outside.
I love when artists stretch themselves beyond their immediate comfort zones, and that’s why I think I’m Dreaming of a White Doomsday is going to be so good. This personal, almost internal, horror story represents a real departure for Lombardo and what he’s done so far.
“What started as a short film we were shooting on the weekends just sort of took on a life of its own and kept growing until we realized we had a feature on our hands,” says Lombardo. “I’m usually known for doing the more comedic end of horror, so I think fans of Reel Splatter are going to be surprised at how bleak, disturbing, and nihilistic this one is. It goes to some pretty dark places.”
The film stars Damian Maffei (Joe R. Lansdale’s Christmas with the Dead, Closed for the Season}, Hope Bikle, and Reeve Blazi and will be ready for a Christmas 2016 release. Watch this spot and we’ll bring you more as we have it, or check out the Reel Splatter website for more information.
