NyMpha and The Nuns

What are the odds you will be in Santa Maria di Leuca, Italy on May 30th? If you are that fortunate, then be sure to catch the Salento Fear Fest if you’d like to see the premiere of Ivan Zuccon‘s new horror film NyMpha.
The fine fiends over at Twitch posted information on the premiere today along with links to two NyMpha trailers that have the cautionary warning: Viewer discretion is advised. But first, what is the film about? The site’s synopsis is a little confusing, but let’s take a crack at it anyway:
NyMpha is the story of Sarah, a young English girl, who goes to Italy to take vows needed to become a cloister nun of the “New Order” convent. The rules of the convent are very strict, so strict that they are often considered a form of torture. Sarah’s path is divided into four steps: “hear” the Lord, “see” the Lord, “touch” the Lord and “talk” with the Lord. Each step will be painful for both Sarah’s physical and mental selves. Moreover, during Sarah’s journey, she often has visions of the convent’s past, visions that it was the house of a young girl named Ninfa.
Ninfa’s life was ruined by the religious fanaticism of her violent grandfather Geremia, who believes that he can talk directly with God. In reality, he is utterly mad, and this madness seems to be present today (within the walls of the convent) where young Sarah lives.
The grandfather part of the story doesn’t appear in the trailer and may not be as graphic as we’d like, but the previews sure hint at one messy film. Evil nuns always seem to have that appeal, don’t they?
