Another Fairy Tale Retelling on the Way – The Brothers Grimm: Snow White in 3D

In case you haven’t noticed, fairy tales are all the rage. We’ve got multiple spins on Red Riding Hood, Hansel and Gretel, and Beauty and the Beast all coming to big and small screens. Just the other day we told you about one new version of Snow White on its way, and now today comes news of yet another … in 3D of course!

Relativity Media has tapped Brett Ratner to help produce its live-action adaptation of The Brothers Grimm: Snow White with a script from Melisa Wallack, and during last weekend’s MTV Movie Awards the network chatted with Ratner briefly about the script and whether or not it will be shot in 3D or converted. The full video from MTV follows, but here are a few excerpts:

I’m producing, I’m not directing, but I’m excited about it. It’s an edgier kind of reinvention; the script is excellent, and I’m looking forward to it…We’re gonna shoot it for 3D; it’s better like that. The conversion [process] is still kind of iffy…Walt Disney made the best movie ever made so it’s not easy, but it’s a fantastic script. We go back to the original folklore…it’s edgier, it’s cooler.

Keep it here for more on all these “Grimm” tales as it comes.

You're such an inspiration for the ways that I will never, ever choose to be.

ANOTHER damn regurgitation of ANOTHER overtold fairy tale by ANOTHER studio seeking to tap money from ANOTHER mediocre director being directed by ANOTHER hack. Lame.

“We are bad guys. That means we’ve got more to do other than bullying companies. It’s fun to lead a bad man’s life.”

Don’t forget ANOTHER unnecessary 3D extravaganza just so they can charge more for tickets.

Bingo, WIB. How long before we have movies being offered in theaters for 80 bucks a pop?

Anytime someone says ‘edgier’ they’ve lost me as an audience member. Hollywood’s idea of ‘edgy’ makes me yawn and anything Ratner the Rat is behind has to suck.

ANY time someone uses the word “edgy,” it’s an anxious attempt to garner interest in what will likely be anything but edgy. Edgy is just a zing word for products. I can fondly recall watching MTV and hearing Mandy Moore use the word “edgy” as a way to describe her new album. She used the word like fifteen times in one sentence and I laughed my ass off.

I had an egg salad sandwich for lunch yesterday. THAT was edgy.

Oh, and the remakes? Who cares? They won’t see a penny from me, I’ll tell you that much.

            Extreme Egg Salad! Woo!
