First Official Zombie Images: Frank Darabont’s The Walking Dead

Thus far we have approved of the casting for Frank Darabont’s small screen adaptation of the Robert Kirkman zombie epic The Walking Dead, but the living aren’t the only thing Darabont and company are getting right as today AMC provided excited hungry fans with their first look at the show’s shamblers!

The Walking Dead is based on Robert Kirkman’s popular comic series. It chronicles the months and years following a zombie apocalypse. Frank Darabont is the project’s writer, director, and exec producer with Gale Anne Hurd and David Alpert also exec producing. KNB will be handling the effects, and AMC has already ordered six episodes.

Jon Bernthal, Jeffrey DeMunn, Sarah Wayne Callies, Laurie Holden, Steven Yeun, and Andrew Lincoln are all set to star.

Production has started on AMC’s newest original series, and who better to tell you about it than The Walking Dead writer, director, and executive producer Frank Darabont and executive producer Gale Anne Hurd. In this exclusive video Darabont and Hurd discuss the series; Darabont talks about his inspiration for doing a show about zombies, the nature of the story, and his goal to “do for zombies what Mad Men has done for advertising.”

You're such an inspiration for the ways that I will never, ever choose to be.

WOW! These are beautiful, amazing undeadness. You can almost smell the fetid flesh and the skin looks so tender and lax, I dig it like a grave.

This is better than eating Lady Gaga’s fingers.

So far I am VERY impressed! Darabont’s zombies look awesome! Recent Romero zombies all look the same. The all look like they just died and you rarely get to see any rot. Really makes me miss the days of Dr. Tongue in DOTD or even some of the zombies in Land. I am glad Darabont’s zombies actually look like rotting corpses.

After the mess that was Diary and Survival, I am about ready to give up caring about Romero’s films. I am glad a respectable director is here to pick up the torch.

Romero’s zombies in Diary and Survival look like they’ve recently died because, for the most part, they HAVE recently died. Diary begins when the dead start to rise and Survival takes place six days after.

These zombies look awesome..though the first still of the female zombie actually reminds me of one of Romero’s ghouls. Either way, Darabont is the man. I’m certain this will rock.

I like the look of these zombies. But the third, which is my favorite, does kind of look like a Tom Cruise zombie.
