DVD Releases: 5/18/2010: A Southern Gothic Monster vs. The New Daughter in a Freakshow

It’s a big week for “versus” films as we have AVH: Alien vs. Hunter, Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus (on Blu-ray solo and also in a two-pack with 30,000 Leagues Under the Sea), and The Navy vs. the Night Monsters. In addition a couple of other dual releases bow on May 18th: Book of Lore/Grave Mistakes and Invasion of Carol Enders/Come Die With Me.

Other promising possibilities include Freakshow, described as “a gory nod to Tod Browning’s 1932 horror cult classic Freaks“, Hard Ride to Hell (who doesn’t love biking devil worshipers?), Haunting of Winchester House (which bills itself as a terrifying true story), Mutant Vampire Zombies From the Hood (the title alone has me sold!), Southern Gothic starring genre fave William Forsythe (it promises to combine arthouse and grindhouse for a ferocious new spin on vampire horror), and Tokyo Gore Police Version 1.5, which includes a bonus disc of follow-up short films.

But for sure our picks of the week (yes, there are two this time) are oldie but goodie Gamera: The Giant Monster and Kevin Costner’s creature feature The New Daughter. Check out Creepy’s reviews of each; you really can’t go wrong with either of them.

Until next week!
