David Goyer, whose name appears to be getting put onto so many goddamn movies I can’t help but wonder if he’s being cloned in secret, recently chatted to Sci Fi Wire about the upcoming Scanners remake he’ll be penning for Saw III helmer Darren Lynn Bousman.
“One of the things that’s also great about Scanners was the fact that Cronenberg embeds so much subtext into his stories,” he told the site. “We’ve tried to keep the spirit of that and kind of transpose that into a post-9/11 world, if you can imagine what Scanners would be involved in in that kind of world. That’s what we’re attempting to do here.”
Ah, yes, a post-9/11 world. That’s where we’re living folks, and sometimes it worries me what the generation actually growing up in this age will eventually create. Goyer went on to simply say that they’re hoping they can expand on Cronenberg’s original, which was done on a shoestring budget. In Canada. Expect to see the new Scanners in theaters sometime next year.
