Kyle Rankin set to directed Infestation**UPDATED: Full plot details revealed!**

In a spot buried in a Variety story about a new comedy project, we just learned what the next feature project for Project Greenlight winner and Hell Holes star/co-creator Kyle Rankin will be.

According to the trade, Heavy Duty Entertainment is producing Rankin’s next pic which is called Infestation and is described as a horror/action hybrid. Director Rankin dropped us a line with the full details on what Infestation is actually about; “A slacker-type wakes up in a cocoon to find that giant bugs have taken over the world. He wakes up a small group and they try to figure out how the hell to proceed. On a spectrum between 28 Days Later and Shaun of the Dead … we’re closer to 28 Days, but with some humor; real scares, but a lead character who would really rather not save the planet.” Sounds pretty damn good to me!

Kyle also let us know that his co-director on and editor of Battle of Shaker Heights, not to mention partner in Newborn Pix, Efram Potelle, has signed on to handle all the digital effects.

Infestation is scheduled to go in front of cameras in Bulgaria next month. Rankin, for those who didn’t follow the horror/comedy Hell Holes over at Atom Films (do yourself a favor and check it out here), was the second season winner of Project Greenlight, earning the honor of helming the underwhelming Battle of Shaker Heights. Considering what he’s had his hands in since, something tells me he’s a bit of a horror buff.

Stay tuned for more details as we dig ‘em up!
