Possible New Godzilla Design?

To this very day I, like many Godzilla fans, wake up drenched in sweat and screaming with thoughts of Roland Emmerich’s half-chicken/half-iguana monster stomping on my childhood memories of Big G and his throng of monster enemies. Thankfully the night terrors have faded with time and the thought of a new Godzilla that’s looking to set the record straight again stomping around the big screen.

We already know that Legendary Pictures has acquired the rights to develop and produce a new Godzilla flick to be co-produced, co-financed, and distributed by Warner Brothers. While there are no other details or talk of any talent that might be involved at this time, the plan is to release the second and hopefully more successful stab at an American Godzilla in 2012.

Over on Twitch Films they’ve come across some fan art that’s unofficially being considered by Legendary to submit to Toho as a possible design concept.

Dig on it below, and tell us what you think! Also click that link for another look!

Another American godzilla reboot could only prove disastrous.

The rumor actually started on message boards where these pics and others were obviously delibertly “leaked”. Someone showed them to my editor Robert Hood at “Undead Backbrain” as possible designs so he created an article simply asking the question if they were and “TwitchFilm” followed suit but niether website made any claims that they were legit. Hence the “?” in the titles of both articles. They both were only articles of speculation and only seeking an answer and now that they have it everyone can rest happily so no harm was done. An interesting sidenote- the original source of the pics was a fan’s “flicker” page as stated in the above linked TwitchFilm article. That fan has now come forth to say that he himself was shown these pics by a friend in the industry that told him they were early concept designs created for the film. Who knows? Either way, no harm is caused by speculation.

Might not be Godzilla but it would sure make a nice dragon

I have been going all over the internet trying to set the record straight. this 100% IS NOT the design of the new Godzilla. This is a fan’s creation that has been sitting his Flicker account for months. Someone found it and posted it at a Godzilla fourm, then got uploaded onto a fan site then spread like a plague all over the internet.

      LOL! Thanks Vermi!

      Still cool looking though!

Good thing that’s not the real deal. It looks far and away better than Emmerich’s iguana bitch, but I’m still not hot on it. I understand them not wanting to make an exact replica of the original look, but it should still be identifiable as Godzilla. That fanmade thing doesn’t resemble Godzilla to me.

I agree. Although cool in it’s own right, and better than the Godzilla we got from Emmerich, It (to me) does not look like Godzilla. Too lean, neck is too elongated, it’s almost bird-like.

I hope that if it is real it stays a concept. That doesn’t look anything like Godzilla in any way, shape or form. It looks more like something that would come out of Guillermo’s Hobbit camp as an early, very flawed, design for Smaug.

I’ll agree, waaaaay too bird like.

I hope the next Godzilla film gives us what we want (or at least what I want) which is a MASSIVE NUMBER OF MONSTERS!

Humans are boring (unless they are being stepped on), same with human weaponry. Godzilla vs. a tank… don’t care. Godzilla vs. a half dozen homicidal, city crushing monsters, that’s the stuff!
