Final Destination 5 Has its Writer – Elm Street and Thing Scribe Eric Heisserer

Talk about hitting the ground running! Having already done a rewrite on the script for Platinum Dunes’ remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street and of course fleshing out the antics of them crazy Swedes in Universal’s prequel of The Thing, writer Eric Heisserer will also be dealing out the death in Final Destination 5!

According to The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision Blog, “New Line, hoping to stave off a mummifying franchise, is trying to break out of the repetition of the first four movies and believes that Heisserer is part of the solution; the UTA-repped writer is developing a reputation for being the go-to guy for reinventing branded material.”

As of now the exact plot is under wraps, but the above article does confirm that one scene involves a character undergoing laser eye surgery. Anyone who has undergone said procedure can confirm there’s nothing quite like the smell of your own eyes burning!

This series is braindead garbage. I’m amazed it’s still running.

Yeah. For me they stopped being somewhat entertaining at FDII. I really liked the first. Didn’t mind the second it was ok. But the franchise has gone downhill from there.

FD1 seemed to be going somewhere with its story, FD2 seemed to be running with it slowly, then suddenly it stopped trying to just create a story and just decided to lay out a series of gruesome deaths to appeal to the lowest common denominator who protest “We horror fans are intelligent!” and then drool and giggle at the gore of the Final Destination movies while the studio collects their cash and mutters “Those fucking morons.”

If they ever try to put a story and character development into a Final Destination movie it will suck.

I’ve only seen the first two but with just that I agree. It’s like the Friday the 13th series. If you really cared about the characters, if they were sympathetic, well drawn, acted, “people” these films would be profoundly disturbing. Which is fine and dandy but that’s a whole different type of movie. The cartoon cut outs that pass for characters and outragous kills make these movies fun.

Wow, and who says horror fans have no brains.

I adored the first 3 FD movies, four wasn’t all that great really and they did call it the final one for a reason or so I thought…

I’d love to see them come up with something new instead of returning back to this but oh well….

    • Floydian Trip

I liked them all and I knew it wasn’t going to be the last one. Hollywood just doen’t throw away an idea built for sequels like this one.

      • Katsumi

I liked the 4th one I just think it could have been a bit better…

I didn’t figure they would stop once I seen the way four ended with a gaint loop hole, hofully they ditch the 3-D stuff for this one though.
