DVD Releases: 4/13/2010: A Wicked Stepmother Leaves Mental Scars on the Creature of Darkness

This is the time of year when a lot of people have some extra cash sitting in their bank accounts thanks to their tax refunds. Unfortunately, if you’re one of them and are hoping to shell some of it out on DVD’s this week, you don’t have a heckuva lot to choose from. Even so, there are a few gems mixed in with the rest.

Most certainly the pick of the week is the Blu-ray release of the original A Nightmare on Elm Street. Other strong possibilities are 1951’s The Day the Earth Stood Still on Blu-ray and the campy Bette Davis classic Wicked Stepmother (although beware the latter is an “on demand” DVD-R).

The rest is a mixed bag of noir compilations Murder & Mayhem and Femme Fatales along with an Ed Wood, Jr., collection and several nature gone amok flicks like The Final Storm, Ice Twisters, and Storm Seekers. Not all are “pure” horror, we know, but they look like a fun time should the right mood strike. As does Infection: The Invasion Begins if the reviews on Amazon can be trusted. As for the rest, well, you guys are on your own!
