The Streamy Awards, honoring excellence in Web TV programming, have officially come of age with the announcement that they are not just a one-time thing. In fact, the 2nd Annual Streamy Awards will be taking place in just a few weeks on Sunday, April 11, 2010, LIVE on the Internet.
Presented by the International Academy of Web Television, the Streamy Awards have 35 creative categories ranging from comedy, drama, and foreign series to acting and directing to editing and special effects. Members of the IAWT review shows submitted through a free, public submissions process and vote on the final nominees and winners for each category. The Audience Choice Award for Best Web Television Series is selected by the public.
The aforementioned April 11th Streamy Awards Ceremony will be held at the historic Orpheum Theatre, 842 S. Broadway in downtown Los Angeles, California, starting at 5:30 PM (PT)/8:30 PM (ET). The Streamy Craft Award winners will be announced at a separate ceremony on April 7th at the Barnsdall Art Center in Hollywood.
While a lot of the nominees don’t necessarily hail from the horror genre, there are plenty of familiar names that do, including Best Companion Web Series candidates “Dexter: Early Cuts” and “Harper’s Globe” (companion to the CBS TV series “Harper’s Island”) along with “I Kissed a Vampire”, “Fear Clinic”, “Woke Up Dead”, and “Circle of Eight”, which are up for some of the technical awards. In addition, many of the other categories have nominees with titles like “Angel of Death” (starring Zoe Bell, who is also a Best Actress contender) and “Compulsions” and feature assassins, sociopaths, and other shady characters that are likely to appeal to horror fans.
