We really loved the creepy adventure game Oxenfree (check out our review and our interview with the director), so we’re thrilled to learn that it’s getting a director’s cut edition on PS4 next month featuring a ton of new content.

From the Press Release:
OXENFREE, the critically acclaimed narrative-driven adventure game created by Night School Studio, will soon be making its PlayStation®4 (PS4™) debut in its most definitive version yet. Fresh off of its win for Excellence in Visual Art at last month’s Independent Games Festival, with honorable mentions in the Grand Prize, Narrative, and Audio categories, the critically praised coming-of-age tale will be receiving a slew of new content with alternate endings, new dialogue, and locations in its New Game+ Mode. The New Game+ Mode for PS4, Steam, and Xbox One is scheduled to release on May 31.

The OXENFREE New Game+ Mode is a surreal continuation of the story of Alex and her friends on a decommissioned military island and offers new locations and additional endings that serve as an extension of the story. Upon completing the story once, players are met at the start of a new game with fresh dialogue choices and a creeping sense of deja vu. With this feature, players will be able to further change the supernatural events of Edwards Island and the spectres that inhabit it.

In addition to the New Game+ Mode, the PS4 version of OXENFREE will use the DualShock®4 controller like the supernaturally charged radio in the game, syncing color glow changes on the light bar and playing broadcasts through the controller’s speaker.

Additionally, an OXENFREE PS4 Dynamic Theme will debut next month in the PlayStation Store. The theme will showcase a dynamically evolving version of Edwards Island, where an appropriate scene from the game will be represented on screen based on the real time of day. This Theme can be purchased alone or in a bundle with the game.

Lastly, players on all platforms will receive a behind-the-scenes documentary series in the game, showcasing the process of taking OXENFREE from concept to a finished surreal thriller.

“As fans have consistently asked for a PlayStation 4 version of OXENFREE, we set out to do something really special for the PS4 debut, unlike anything any other narrative game has tried,” says Sean Krankel, Co-Founder of Night School Studio. “Fans have become so attached to Alex and her friends, so we created this New Game+ mode to let them impact and continue her story in a crazy way that both deepens the experience and makes it highly replayable. We want everyone to get lost in the world of OXENFREE for a long time.”

OXENFREE is the debut title from Los Angeles based indie developer Night School Studio and became one of the first games of 2016 to capture the hearts and minds of critics and players alike this past January. The game centers around a teenage girl named Alex, who brings her new step-brother Jonas to an overnight party on an abandoned military island gone horribly wrong. Described as “a mix of ‘Freaks and Geeks,’ Poltergeist, and the best teen films of the 80’s” by Polygon and “an indie gaming essential” from VICE, OXENFREE is what VentureBeat also calls “a big next step for adventure games.”

Night School Studio also recently partnered with Robert Kirkman and David Alpert’s multiplatform entertainment company Skybound Entertainment to produce multifaceted content for OXENFREE in a co-branding franchise agreement.
