Liv Ullmann To Direct Ghost Brothers of Darkland CountyLittle ditty about Stephen King and John Mellencamp, two American kids growin’ up in the heartland. If you haven’t heard about this unlikely collaboration yet, rest assured you’ll be hearing lots about Ghost Brothers of Darkland County soon enough because the project has found itself a director.

Variety reports that Liv Ullmann (pictured right) is “unofficially” on board to direct this musical collaboration by Mellencamp and King called Ghost Brothers of Darkland County, which centers upon the legend of a 1957 tragedy that haunts a small Mississippi town.

0riginally announced for the 2008-09 season at Alliance Theater in Atlanta, the show was postponed indefinitely. Later in January a recording of Ghost Brothers was announced for a forthcoming release to be produced by Oscar winner T Bone Burnett. The package is set to include three CDs, a book, and will feature Kris Kristofferson, Elvis Costello, Roseanne Cash, Neko Case, Sheryl Crow, Mellencamp, and more.

We still don’t have a release date, but we’d expect news of one soon.
