DVD and Blu-ray Releases: April 19, 2016

default-featured-image

We have the lucky number of thirteen for our release list this week, folks. As I mentioned last week, German Angst could have come out then, but it also could be coming out this week. Either way, I have a 50% chance of being right on this one.

As for classics this week, there are a handful of titles to speak of. First up is Helga: She Wolf of Stilberg from 1978. I can’t say for certain, but I think she was my Philosophy professor in college. We’ve also got Paul Sorvino in the Blu-ray release of The Stuff and the legendary Dennis Hopper in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, also on Blu-ray. Closing out our classics is 1984’s Bloody Wednesday (which I always thought was the original working title for The Cure’s “Friday I’m In Love”).

From the 90’s we’ve got Gorotica and Gore Whore. I don’t know a ton about these SRS movies outside of the fact that they have fun names to say.

Outside of that, there are still a bunch of more recent releases to peruse below, so choose wisely. Pleasant viewing.

Bloody Wednesday (1984)

Bloody Wednesday (1984)

Starring:

Raymond Elmendorf, Pamela Baker, Navarre Perry

Synopsis:

On July 18, 1984 in San Diego, CA, 41-year-old James Huberty said goodbye to his wife and two daughters and calmly walked out of his house saying he was “going hunting humans.” Moments later, he walked into a McDonald’s and killed 21 people with a small arsenal of weapons before being fatally shot by a SWAT team sniper. The San Ysidro Massacre, as it became known, was the deadliest mass shooting that had ever taken place in America. Academy award winner Philip Yordan brings us the film, Bloody Wednesday, which recreates that event with Harry Curtis (Raymond Elmendorf), who we watch inexplicably descending into madness. Harry s sense of reality is distorted as he is haunted by ghosts, harassed by neighborhood thugs, and has bizarre interactions with his only friend; a talking teddy bear. Isolated by his mental illness, he begins to feel more and more abandoned and betrayed by humanity. When he loses his job, his descent into madness accelerates and ultimately culminates in a senseless and random massacre at a local diner. Bloody Wednesday examines and illustrates just how such an event can happen, complete with irrational monologues and off-the-wall manifestations of his madness that are not to be missed.
