RIP Freddie Francis

Freddie Francis, Oscar winning cinematographer and noted director died on March 17th. Having lensed such films as The Elephant Man and Cape Fear, along with directing a number of Hammer Horror films in his native England, his work should be familiar to many horror fans.

He directed two of Amicus’ most famous horror anthologies; Dr Terror’s House of Horrors and Tales From the Crypt, not to be confused with the TV series, though he did indeed direct an episode of that too.

Having worked with such greats as Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee, as well as directors like David Lynch and Edward Zwick, Freddie’s loss will no doubt be felt by many due to his contribution to the house of Hammer and his striking cinematography, most notably the films he lensed in black and white.

Our wishes go out to the members of Freddie’s family he leaves behind. Here’s to you Freddie, thanks for everything you did.
