Paleyfest 2010: Dexter Panel Reveals a Few Clues for Season FiveThe Dexter panel at Paleyfest 2010 ended just a short while ago, and while not a lot was revealed about what the writers have in store for us during Season Five, Andrew did report back with a few choice tidbits, including the much debated time frame in which the new episodes will be set.

First, here’s a look at who was in attendance:

Michael C. Hall, “Dexter Morgan”
Jennifer Carpenter, “Debra Morgan”
Lauren Velez, “Lt. Maria Laguerta”
Julie Benz, “Rita Bennett Morgan”
David Zayas, “Angel Batista”
C.S. Lee, “Vince Masuka”
James Remar, “Harry Morgan”
Desmond Harrington, “Joey Quinn”
Clyde Phillips, Executive Producer
Sara Colleton, Executive Producer
John Goldwyn, Executive Producer
Melissa Rosenberg, Executive Producer
Scott Buck, Executive Producer

A lot of the Season 5 info came from Sara Colleton, who revealed that it will pick up right where Season 4 ended, enabling the audience to grieve along with Dexter. As for whether or not Deb will ever “know” about Dex, Colleton said it was “important for the series (vs. a film) for nobody to know Dexter’s real identity but Dexter“. The writers are hesitant to go in that direction due to how it would spoil the dynamic between the two characters. Carpenter chimed in that she was “scared” to think along those lines.

They’ve only just begun fleshing out the season and starting to write, but filming isn’t set to begin until June so they have some time to work out the details. Best of all, when asked about an “end point” for Dexter, Scott Buck promised “it’s really far away“.

For a full rundown of the topics covered, which also touched on everyone’s favorite scenes (or, in Michael C. Hall’s case, favorite kills), visit the Paley Center on Twitter, which live tweeted the whole event. For MCH it was “Thanksgiving dinner. We had so much fun that day. The worst Thanksgiving ever.” And of course Julie Benz’s was much more sedate; hers was “when Dexter proposes to Rita.” Just beware spoilers abound for those who aren’t fully caught up.

Paleyfest 2010 runs through March 14th at The Paley Center in Beverly Hills, California.
