Paranormal Activity to Haunt UK Homes This March with Some Exclusives

Mark your calendars, UK fans, as Oren Peli’s love-it-or-hate-it spookfest Paranormal Activity will be ready to make you very uncomfortable in your own home on March 22nd courtesy of Icon Home Entertainment. Even better is that both the Blu-ray and DVD editions will be sporting some UK EXCLUSIVE special features!

After Micah (Micah Sloat) and Katie (Katie Featherston), a young, middle class couple move into what seems like a typical suburban “starter” house, they become increasingly disturbed by a presence that may or may not be somehow demonic, but is certainly most active in the middle of the night, especially when they are fast asleep. The presence seems most concerned with Katie, a student who has felt “haunted” her whole life.

Her boyfriend, a day-trader, becomes fixated on learning as much as he can about the phenomenon. Technologically savvy and a lover of toys, Micah spends a few thousand dollars on a high-definition video camera and sets it up at the foot of their bed, creating at once the most intimate of tableaux and an evidentiary medium.

The arrival of Micah’s new toy seems to trigger an escalation of paranormal activity, causing Katie to observe that the presence “doesn’t like it.” As the video tape rolls, Katie becomes increasingly distant while Micah’s fascination grows into obsession.

The sure-to-be-coveted exclusive extras on this release include:

  • Audio commentary from director Oren Peli – World Exclusive: This Region 2 release is the only one in the world that will feature audio commentary from Paranormal Activity director Oren Peli. As you watch the film, listen as he talks about how he created the horror phenomenon that shocked the world.

  • “Film Your Own Paranormal Activity” Short Film Finalists: The DVD and Blu-ray releases will contain the winning entries to Icon’s “Film Your Own Paranormal Activity” competition. During Paranormal Activity‘s theatrical release, UK fans were challenged to shoot their own paranormal short film using the same home-made techniques applied in Paranormal Activity; you can view all of the three-minute entries on Icon’s “Prepare to Be Scared” YouTube channel. The entries, judged by Icon Home Entertainment and director Peli, were whittled down to a shortlist of 10 finalists. The overall winner was then selected by Peli, who filmed an exclusive video introduction to the winning short film, detailing why that particular entry was chosen. All 10 winning short films, along with Oren Peli’s video introduction, will be exclusively included on the UK DVD and Blu-ray release of Paranormal Activity.

  • Alternate Ending (with optional Audio Commentary) – Another World Exclusive: The alternate ending featured on the Paranormal Activity UK DVD and Blu-ray release will feature never-before-heard audio commentary from the film’s acclaimed director Oren Peli. While the alternate ending has been made available on other DVD and Blu-ray releases, Peli recorded the audio commentary exclusively for the UK.

Between this and the upcoming Triangle release we told you about here, I can picture a lot of jealous faces across the pond! If you’re considering the import, be warned – you’ll need a multi-region player as the DVD is locked to Region 2 and the Blu-ray is Region B.

Can I be the one to call bullshit on this? Without America, nobody would give two shits about this movie. Yet all we get is the movie with an alternate ending? What did the UK ever do to get the audio commentary?
