You need a sinister character actor for your movie? Look no further than Vincent Cassel. The guy just oozes malevolence. It seems only fair that, given his character’s celluloid misdeeds, sooner or later he’d get the short end of the stick and have to atone for his movie sins. And atone he will in the upcoming flick The Monk.
Variety reports that Cassel will topline in the film, which depicts the rise and tragic downfall of Capucin Ambrosio, a respected Spanish monk. The Monk is an 18th Century-set tale based on Matthew Lewis’ Gothic novel.
As the story goes, Ambrosio is undone by carnal lust for his pupil, a woman disguised as a monk, who is eventually revealed as an instrument of Satan in female form, who has orchestrated Ambrosio’s downfall from the start. Such a naughty little thing!
Set in Madrid, the film will also star Deborah Francois (The First Day of the Rest of Your Life), Sergi Lopez (Leaving), and Geraldine Chaplin (The Orphanage). French-German director Dominik Moll has been tapped to direct.
