Filmmaker Joe Begos Needs a Helping Hand for Mom’s Cancer Treatment

The horror community is small, and most of us in it are struggling more than you’d ever believe. The sad truth is that few filmmakers are getting paid what they should be anymore, and it’s never been tougher to get noticed.
Horror fans, above and beyond anything, are some of the most passionate about the genre; and we think of ourselves as residents on our own private island of misfit toys. We have no union, and nobody gives us damn about us but us.
That’s why when one of our own is in need, we drop everything and do whatever we can to try to help. Filmmaker Joe Begos’ (Almost Human, The Mind’s Eye) mother, Rebecca, is being treated for cancer but the bills, as you’d expect, are piling up and the filmmaker is turning to his friends, his community, to see if maybe someone can lend a much needed hand.
“A few weeks ago, and about 3/4th through this second round of treatment, she felt another, new lump on her ribs,” Begos says regarding his mom via the GoFundMe Page. “Upon receiving a new round of scans, the information was devastating. The cancer was continuing to spread while under rigorous chemo and radiation treatments, and there was nothing else the doctors could do. That’s it.”
“She was then taken off chemo.”
“Mom determined that answer to be unacceptable, as anybody in her situation would. After lots of research and meeting with people who offer various natural remedies, Ma decided to fight the cancer using various natural and experimental cures that have had varying levels of success. This is where we need extra help.”
“Mom hasn’t been able to work since the diagnosis, and her only income is in the form of Social Security payments, which is barely enough to cover her bills of living alone in a 1 bedroom apartment, let alone anything she actually needs to help combat this. I, along with various other family members have done everything we could to start her on this natural treatment, but it hasn’t been nearly enough.”
“This is the last route we can take, so we need to throw everything at it that we can. I can’t lose my Mom.”
