Two New Stills from Indie Film Fetch

One indie project that we’ve been keeping close tabs on is Fetch, director C.M. Downs’ upcoming feature that is currently shooting in Kansas, and today he sent over two new stills and an update on what’s been happening since we last heard from him.

First up is a shot of Downs with actor Jason C. Miller (who portrays the character Clyde Arbuckle). Here’s how Downs describes it, “I’m walking him through his final death sequence… I’m a big fan of keeping those eyes open at death. I know it’s hard to tell, but the dirt floor he is laying on is actually frozen, which is why the blood is pooling around his neck and not seeping into the ground.” In case you’re wondering how the ground got to be frozen, Downs explains, “These guys shot through the coldest temps in 20 years of Kansas history. When I say cold, I mean COLD!!!

Downs also sent over a badass picture of “Jokker”, a very large trained Missouri Police Shepherd. Downs sings Jokker’s praises, “I have never worked with live animals to be intercut with special effects before, and I must say I wasn’t sold it would work … I just knew I wanted to do the effects shots practical. Jokker is truly wonderful. He is guided by his wrangler/trainer Scott Hedger and can work off hand signals from across set. Very impressive stuff.

When asked if he had any stories to tell about Jokker’s time on-set, Downs replied, “What’s funny is the only major issue was keeping him from lapping all the fake blood off his snout. I guess it just tasted really good! Oh yeah … and humping the horse blankets … that was pretty damn amusing. He would hump them so fast you couldn’t do anything but laugh your ass off!” Way to go, Jokker!

With only five days left of principal filming, Fetch has already begun the editing process. Shooting resumes the first week of March, when hopefully it’ll be a little warmer.

Fetch, a terrifying story of six members of an evangelical Christian group who have been abducted in rural Kansas, was written by Trent (Deadgirl) Haaga and stars Ashlynn Yennie as Starlene Arbuckle, Shawn G. Smith as Punch, and newcomer Krystal Heib as Christina Jenkins. Smith previously appeared in the “30 Days of Night: Blood Trails” TV series while Yennie will be familiar to those who have seen The Human Centipede (First Sequence) (review here).

To stay up-to-date on Fetch‘s progress, follow the film from the director’s perspective on Twitter via @CM_Downs and on the official DrippingDead Films website.
