First Details: Escape From New York Remake Hits the Fast Track

Just when you thought it was safe to lay your fears of an Escape From New York remake aside, the project has been fast-tracked and is back with a vengeance.

According to New York Magazine’s Vulture thanks to a script rewrite by Allan Loeb, New Line Cinema is now moving full speed ahead with their plans for a reimagining of John Carpenter’s classic 1981 tale of action and doom.

“A big reason for the fast track was creative,” says the site. “Loeb nailed the humor in Plissken without slipping into camp, and he changed Snake’s rescue-mission target from a president to a female senator, thereby upping the banter quotient. But just as big a factor was economic: They found a much cheaper way to turn Manhattan into a giant prison.”

Rumors are now swirling about who will be donning the eye patch to play Snake. Everyone from Gerard Butler to Josh Holloway (Sawyer from “Lost”). In retrospect we think Holloway could pull it off, but we’d still rather stick with Butler for sheer badass value.

I like Butler, but I think Holloway would be great. And it’s about time we saw some Sawyer on the big screen!
