Tim Burton Says Beetlejuice 2 Not Actually in Development

By all accounts, the key players from the original Beetlejuice are totally on board for the long-awaited sequel, so it came as no big surprise to us when Tim Burton reportedly confirmed last week that production had begun. As it turns out, however, we were fed some serious misinformation.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, a rep for Tim Burton has revealed that the recent comments that allegedly came from Burton’s mouth were fabricated, shooting down the rumor that Beetlejuice 2 is on the way. According to the rep, the sequel is not actually in development at this time.

At the moment, Burton is completing work on Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, due out in theaters on September 30, and his next film will be a live action adaptation of Disney’s animated classic Dumbo.

On the plus side, both Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder have expressed a whole lot of interest in reprising their iconic roles from the 1988 classic, and Burton himself seems to be keen on directing. So just because Beetlejuice 2 isn’t being made right now, that doesn’t mean it will never get off the ground.

Only time will tell.
