Rumor Mill Begins for Universal/Imagine's The Vampire Chronicles Films; Josh Boone Said to Be in Talks to DirectWell, that didn’t take long. Less than two weeks after Universal Pictures and Imagine Entertainment acquired the rights to adapt author Anne Rice’s entire The Vampire Chronicles series, a director is apparently in early talks for the first film.

Per The Wrap (who did post a disclaimer that Imagine told them the news is “completely untrue” but nonetheless stands by its story), The Fault in Our Stars‘ Josh Boone is the individual in question, and he’s being eyed to both write and direct.

The new film won’t be a remake of Interview with the Vampire but instead is expected to draw from the second and third books in Rice’s series – The Vampire Lestat and The Queen of the Damned – and will likely be faithful to the source material. Hallelujah!

Boone is currently prepping his three-hour adaptation of Stephen King‘s The Stand for Warner Bros. and CBS Films. Casting on that should begin soon with his take on Lestat expected to follow The Stand.

When Universal Pictures acquired the rights to the Chronicles, they set Imagine Entertainment’s Brian Grazer to produce along with Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci. Imagine Entertainment president Erica Huggins will oversee the project on behalf of the company while Bobby Cohen will executive produce. They will have access to the entire body of existing and future The Vampire Chronicles novels, including Christopher Rice’s (Anne’s son) adapted screenplay for The Tale of the Body Thief and her upcoming Prince Lestat, releasing in October.

Look for lots more soon!
